But what if science has shown that women are more likely to attract attention from men if she appears wearing a certain color?
A study involving several experiments investigated the way men viewed women who were dressed in different colors, with all other factors as controlled for as possible. Their conclusions were the same: that ladies wearing red, or pictured surrounded by red, receive more heterosexual male attention, and are more favorably viewed in terms of pure attraction:
"Across five experiments, the results were always the same. The male undergrads who rated the photo bordered in red, found the woman more attractive, were more interested in asking her on a date, and willing to spend more money during the date. The researchers were also careful to show that the effect was specifically tied to sexual interest. They showed, for example, that when heterosexual women rated the attractiveness of the same female stranger, they weren’t swayed by the border’s color. In addition, men didn’t believe the red-bordered woman was more likable, kind, or intelligent—only that she was more attractive and sexually appealing." -- Slate.com
The same went for online dating photos: women wearing red received more emails from men.
Now fellows, don't worry: women also show a preference for men wearing red, all other characteristics aside. A similar study conducted in 2010 showed the same phenomenon: that wearing red, or being pictured bordered by red, makes a man more attractive to heterosexual women.
We can probably safely draw out this conclusion to include all singles in the dating game: you probably won't go wrong wearing red no matter who you're trying to attract!
This love of red seems to span cultures as well. It may have to do with our innate biology: some hypothesize that since humans often flush red when sexually excited, we may all be unconsciously favorably responding to ancient cues that one is ready for some action! Of course, whether or not you're looking for immediate action yourself, the truth of red's superiority in gaining favorable responses from potential dates seems to be clear. Now the question is: how will you use this information?
We all know the saying "红杏出墙"...maybe now we should consider making "红色出强" into a new piece of advice for dating!
What do you think of changing the color of your clothes to attract more views or favorable responses? Do you think this unconscious advantage might make a difference for you?
